Bearded Collie Club Of Scotland Open Show 5th March 2016

Firstly, I would like to thank the Officers & Committee Members of the club for the invitation to judge the March Open Show & the lovely gift you presented me with. To you all for exhibiting your dogs under me & accepting my placings in a friendly sportsmanship manner. The Venue is in a stunning location & I know you all appreciate how lucky you are to have such a venue. My thanks go to Show Manager Ken Handley for his excellent setup & ongoing help also my ring steward Lyn Armour. The food by “Chef Liz” was as usual outstanding, Clare & I really enjoyed our lunch so many thanks.
I was pleased to find all exhibits were in a clean, well-groomed condition & that their dentition was the correct bite. Today all exhibits were sound & they all moved well however for me some were a little proud of their tails. It was also lovely to see several Young Folk exhibiting their own or their parent’s dogs these young folk are the future of our breed & in my humble opinion should be encouraged. The future of our breed, the clubs & all canine activities are in their hands we must continue to encourage them.

Spec Vintage Dog 1 (1)

Veteran Dog 2 (1)
1st Mrs A M Glasgow Ch Gallus Absolute Quality, JW, ShCM: Quality Brown with masculine head & toning eye. Arched neck going into well laid back shoulders. Well-muscled moved steadily around the ring keeping his topline as he went.

Minor Puppy Dog 1
1st Mrs P Buchanan-Hislop Ciopar Celtic Little Bear: B/W pup with correct proportion head & lovely dark eye and expression. He had slightly arched neck which continued down to give him good length of body & bone. Good muscle tone for a baby this age he moved steadily around the ring, a little proud with his tail carriage.

Puppy Dog 2(1)
Ms S Gibb Snikkles Bluebeard at Pirateer: BPIS Lovely Blue Boy going through his paling stage however his junior jacket is a quality one well presented by his owner. He has a broad scull with the correct proportions & toning eye, when I looked into his eyes I saw the pleasing expression with that look that indicated he was a “smart cookie”. His tight oval feet straight legs with a good front arrangement. Good body/bone, level topline however he did play his Mum up. As Beardie babies aren’t statutes I couldn’t penalize him for showing me he has character however on the move I did feel he wanted to give a little more.

Junior Dog 1
Mrs A M Glasgow J B de Chester at Gallus: Another Blue Boy in his “teenage stage”. He had an inquiring expression, adequate neck which leads into a shapely body. Low hocks, low tail carriage as moved around the ring with free reaching strides. I’m sure he has a bright future.

Yearling Dog 2
1st Mrs AM Glasgow J B de Chester at Gallus
2nd Mrs H Laing Franlane Brig’O’Doon S/W dog who is nearly 2 at the minute a smaller dog than 1. Preferred head of 1st place however he has a lovely dark eye tight fitting jacket good body would prefer him to be a little longer. He moved at a steady pace with his owner kept his topline on the move. Just preferred the size of 1.

Maiden Dog N/E

Novice Dog N/E

Debutant Dog 2
1st Ms V Gamble Talraz Look to the Future: Masculine S/W Dog good size, lovely head with toning eye. Straight legs well laid back shoulders good body with level topline. When he settled he moved with purpose.
2nd Mr N M & Mrs Broadbridge/Muir: Sallen Rhydwyn Brown Boy with toning eye to coat. Again another nice boy same points from 1st apply lost out today for his proud tail carriage.

Undergraduate Dog 2
1st Mrs S & Mr A Steel Invercoyle Dallas Dhu: RBD Quality S/W Dog, Masculine Head with correct proportions & that beautiful Beardie expression. Standing commanding the ring, arched neck, well sprung ribs level topline deep chest with short loin, low hocks good 2nd thigh muscle therefore when he moved it was with purpose & drive.
2nd Ms V Gamble Talraz Look to the Future.

Graduate Dog 3
1st Mrs B & Mr K Handley Invercoyle Caperdonich at Barkenbear: Striking Blue/White dog with the excellent coordinated pigment, litter brother to Undergraduate. When standing a pleasing shape however for me he is a little square. His has a well-muscled body & moved around the ring with purpose & drive.
2nd Ms V Gamble: Talraz Look To The Future.
3rd Broadbrigde & Muir: Sallen Rhydwyn

Post Graduate Dog 1
1st Mesdames & Mr A. Gill & Cooke & Hosie: Gilliber Ben Romach. Slate boy with masculine head & pigment. Good bone & well-muscled just dipped his topline while standing but moved steadily around the ring.

Mid Limit Dog 1
1st Mrs C & Mrs E Ryan & Black: RBIS/BD : Braedoon Highland Laddie at Razkal JW, ShCM
Last time I judged him he won Best Pup & Res Best Dog. Pleased to see he has matured to a quality Brown/W Beardie. He has a strong male head with toning eye & pigment, a moderate neck leading to a 5-4 body length, good bend of stifle, strong 2nd thigh with low hocks he moved with long reaching strides covering the ground. Just missed out today for BIS to a very pretty Bitch.

Limit Dog 2 (1)
1st Mrs C & Mrs E Ryan & Black: Braedoon Highland Laddie at Razkal JW, ShCM
2nd Mrs B & Mr K Handley: Bargemon Beauford Tourer at Barkenbear, ShCM
Brown/W boy, masculine head with correct shape eye & good pigment. Quality profuse coat in excellent condition & perfection of presentation. He is a pleasing shape when standing, good muscle tone just for me today he carried his tail a little high which effected his topline when he moved.

Open Dog 1(1)

Special Vintage Bitch 2 (1)
1st Mrs A M Glasgow: Gallus Living the Dream Lovely Best Special Vintage
Lovely Feminine B in wonderful condition for her age she was just loving her day out. This B had the most endearing expression, she kept her level topline on the move & she could show younger exhibits how it’s done. A real credit to her owner, Thank You for exhibiting her under me

Veteran Bitch 3 (2)
1st Mrs P Buchanan-Hislop Ciopar: Celtic Chancer BVIS
Another lovely B with feminine head & melting expression good condition for her age. Hard to believe she is a Veteran as she moved around the ring as if she owned it another one enjoying her day out.

Minor Puppy Bitch
1st Mr J Duncan Ciopar Dream Catcher: BPB My notes say what a cutie. Litter sister to MPD she just got her act together a bit more. Pretty head with blackest of nose & pigment. Lovely length of body & pleasing shape. Confident movement retaining her topline & picture enhanced with her low tail carriage however in the challenge for BPIS she just slowed after all it had been a long day!

Puppy Bitch
1st Mrs J Goodbrand Kiltondale isn’t She Lovely for Braesnobel: Another nice baby who should have a bright future. She has just commenced her paling stage she was well groomed & presented by her young handler. Pleasant Sweet head with dark eye nice expression like no1 good body, sound bone another baby with correct 5-4 proportion. She just seemed to be unhappy on the move not quite sure why. I am sure she has a bright future.

Junior Bitch N/E

Yearling Bitch 1
1st Mrs H Laing: Franline Time Will Tell 2yr old S/W B. Nice head & sweet expression still going through coat change but it is of correct harshness. Pleasing shape when stacked & moved around the ring in a steady free fashion.

Maiden Bitch N/E

Novice Bitch N/E

Debutant Bitch 1 (1)

Undergraduate Bitch 2(1)
1st Mrs F & Mr A Steel: Invercoyle Erdradour Blue/White Bitch Lovely to see a Young Person in perfect tune with his (Best Friend). He stacked her to perfection. She is litter sister to Undergraduate & Graduate Dog just like them she has similar construction but with a feminine head & pleasing expression. With her good bone, deep chest level topline she moved in harmony with her handler covering the ground with ease.

Graduate Bitch N/E

Post Graduate B 3 (1)
1st Mesdames & Mr A Gill & Cook & Hosie: BIS B/B Gillaber Benachie J W
My Star today she didn’t put a foot wrong.
Beautiful feminine B lovely head with toning eye & melting expression. Arched neck going into a deep chest 5 to 4 ratio, good angulation front & rear thus my theory if a dog can move with ease they must be constructed well. It was a lovely picture to see her move striding out with ease. When it came to BIS she pulled out all the stops & glided around I simply couldn’t award her anything else but BIS. She was the star of the day.
2nd Mrs J Goodbrand Dychix Whistles And Bells at Braenobel Dark S/W B pretty head well groomed & presented much of no1 qualities apply to this b. Sadly she was unlucky to be in this class & come up against my BIS.

Mid Limit B 4 (2)
1st Mrs F & Mr A W Steel: Osmart Belle In Black Satin At Invercoyle S/W B of nice proportions which she has passed on to her offspring in the ring. Good Front & Rear angulation she kept her topline on the move covering the ring in reaching strides. Another nice B that just missed out.
2nd Dr SA & MD Savage & McLean: Clovabrae Solar Flair: For me this S/W B has a stronger head than 1st place she still has a pleasing expression, nice body proportions with good bone thus allowing her to moved out with long reaching strides. For me a little proud of her tail.

Limit Bitch 4 (2)
1st Miss E & Mrs J Peart: Talluarchy Angel Wings ShCM. Sweet S/W B with a pretty head & good shoulders expression, arched neck into a pleasing body of correct proportions. She settled into a steady stride.
2nd Mr & Mrs R & Mr & Mrs J Ballentyne & Evans: Balbridge Nansies Kiss, JW.
B/W B with nice head & toning eye however I would prefer a little more neck. Saying that she is nice to go over, adequate bone & good muscle tone, with low hocks she moved freely around the ring.
3rd Dr S A & Mr D Savage & McLean: Cloverbrae Solar Flair

Open Bitch 3 (1)
Two very nice bitches who could change places for class & BB.
1st RBB Mr R & Mrs M Robertson Kiltondale Liadhich With Quothquan, ShCM
Quality B/W B Lovely head with a dark eye thus giving me that beautiful Beardie Expression one cannot pass, so similar in qualities to BB. Lovely shape 5-4 ratio, good bone & quality coat with correct harshness she moved freely around the ring, unlucky to be up against BIS B who just seemed to glide along. Another day I’m sure they could change places.
2nd Mrs A M Glasgow Gallus Fortune Cookie, ShCM
This B has matured since I last judged her as I expected she has matured into a quality B. Another B with a feminine head with toning eye & sweet expression. Lovely shape & length she is in great condition moved with drive unlucky to meet 1 & BIS.
I am very sure any 3 of them could change places on another day.

Special Champion Class judged after BIS
These 2 dogs & bitch are worthy champions of the breed thank you for exhibiting them under me.
Another day they could easily change places.
1st Mrs A M Glasgow Ch Gallus Absolute Quality, JW, ShCM
2nd Mrs B & Mr K Handley Ch Bargemon Baryshnikov at Barkenbea, JW, ShCM: S/W boy. His profile says all male, his head of correct proportions filed my hand therefore plenty of brain room, toning eye & true Beardie expression. He has muscular neck with well laid back shoulders, level topline both standing & on the move. He moved around the ring with reaching strides.
3rd Mr A Hosie Ch Gillaber Balnacara at Aliskye, JW: Another quality S/W Bitch. Pretty head & expression, pleasing profile, she was a good length with nice angulation front & rear thus moved at a good pace.
