Bearded Collie Club Of Scotland Championship Show – 5th October 2024 Judge: Alan Hosie (Gillaber) Best in Show: Ch Potterdale Precious Rose Reserve Best in Show: Potterdale Gorgeous George Best Puppy in Show: Valkyrie De Chester At Tamjenta (Imp. Fra) Best Veteran in Show: Ch Snowmead Shades Of Grey JW First, I should like to extend my thanks to the Committee and members for providing me with the opportunity to judge our beautiful breed at your Championship Show. Second, I should like to express my appreciation of the excellent work done by my two stewards, Lyn and Dick who managed things so smoothly. On the whole I was pleased with the quality of the exhibits especially those in both challenges where I was often spoilt for choice and my main winners who, from my ring perspective, all moved out extremely well. Heads were generally very good as was dentition. But I feel that on the move there was often a lack of proper front extension something that has become quite common in recent years. Hocks were longer than they ideally should be in quite a number of cases. Also, I felt some exhibits were not quite long enough in their overall balance with height and there were a number who were overweight which for me is a cardinal sin for a breed which is meant to be lean and active. DOGS: Dog CC: Potterdale Gorgeous George Res. Dog CC: Ungaro De Chester [ATCBB45234FRA] BPD: Strufingill Maverick At Barkenbear BVD: Ch Snowmead Shades Of Gray JW Minor Puppy Dog 2 (1) 1st - Mrs B & Mr K Handley’s Strufingill Maverick At Barkenbear Very dark boy with matching eye and lovely soft expression. Good head proportions, decent shoulder, length of rib and depth of chest lovely length of tail. Moved out well on his own. Puppy Dog 2 (1) 1st - Mrs B & Mr K Handley’s Strufingill Maverick At Barkenbear See 1st in Minor Puppy Dog Junior Dog 1 (0) 1st - Mrs R Salter’s Whole Lotta Love From Noonie Bears By Irisaddition (IMP BEL) Masculine head of correct proportion, dark eye, good layback of shoulder, nice depth of chest, good fore-chest and good length of rib. Correct height to length ratio and moved out freely with purpose. Yearling Dog 4 (1) 1st - Messrs Bernardi, Clerc and Cousson’s Ungaro De Chester [ATCBB45234FRA] This boy was my find of the day and I believe it was his first show in this country and I feel sure he will go on to great things. Lovely outline and held his top-line throughout. Lovely easy flowing movement coming from excellent overall confirmation. Well laidback shoulder good upper arm and so balanced front and rear. Strong head and muzzle of correct proportions, good fore-chest. Today he created such a lovely picture both standing and moving to just pip my second place. In the challenge he excelled again. RDCC 2nd - Mrs B Harcourt-Brown’s Orora’s Himself Lovely brown boy who gave me one of my hardest decisions of the day but it was just the overall picture of one that made the difference on the day. Lovely masculine head, eye matching coat, well laid-back shoulders, deep chest and length of rib, good fore-chest, proper 5:4 proportion. Moved out well and maintained his top line throughout and so well presented. 3rd - Ms S Gibb and Mrs M Dungavell’s Debbeacol Devil In Disguise At Pirateer A bit unlucky to come up against two outstanding exhibits at the top of their game. Perhaps not as long as I should ideally like but has a good head with eye matching coat, decent lay back of shoulder, good depth of chest. Just not the flowing movement of 1 and 2 today. Novice Dog 2 (1) 1st - Mrs B & Mr K Handley’s Strufingill Maverick At Barkenbear See 1st in Minor Puppy Dog Debutant Dog 1 (0) 1st - Mrs B & Mr K Handley’s Strufingill Maverick At Barkenbear See 1st in Minor Puppy Dog Graduate Dog 2 (2) Post Graduate Dog 4 (0) 1st - Miss K Bramley and Mr K Moore‘s Coalacre Do The Hokey Cokey Lovely outline coming from correct proportions and overall sound construction. Moved out so well and one to look out for in the future. 3rd - Mr D Moir’s Winaria Wellington JW A little bit smaller than 1 and 2 but of correct proportions. Good fore-chest, head of correct proportions, lovely expression, good lay back of shoulder and length of upper arm. His strength comes from his movement as he moved out nicely but just preferred the overall picture of 1 and 2. Mid Limit Dog 3 (1) 1st - Mrs C Ryan’s Dychix Invictus For Razkal ShCEx Dark slate, sound head with lovely dark eyes, good lay back of shoulder, decent depth of chest and length of rib. Good length to height. Lovely free movement which won him the class 2nd - Mrs B and Mr K Handley’s Bargemon Brigadoon at Barkenbear JW At the start I must say he pushed 1 all the way. On the stand he presents such an impressive outline. Nicely constructed head and muzzle, nicely arched neck into good lay back of shoulder, good depth of chest not quite the length of rib as 1. Properly angulated rear and good length of tail. Just preferred the movement of 1 today. 3rd - Mr S and Mrs L Kuz’s Duncannas Special Edition at Strufingill JW Not as long as I should like but nice strong head, eye matching coat, good depth of chest, good fore-chest and decent length of rib. Open Dog 6 (1) 1st - Ms A E Tibbetts and Mr J Garrity’s Potterdale Gorgeous George Super outline and such a lovely masculine boy with no hint of coarseness. Strong masculine head, dark eye, angulation well balanced front and rear and of correct 5:4 proportions which all helped him move out with excellent extension and drive. Held his topline well and had to pull out all the stops today to win this class and also in the dog challenge against such strong contenders. DCC and RBIS. 2nd - Mr M, Mrs E and Miss L Jay’s Ch Farmarens Drums Of Spring At Talraz JW (Imp Swe) Smaller type but no doubting his masculinity and again so well balanced, shown immaculately and in great condition. Moved out effortlessly. Lovely balanced head, good depth of chest and strong fore-chest, correctly angulated front and rear and well- muscled second thigh. Another close decision to separate 1 and 2 and strong contender for higher honours. 3rd - Miss E & Mrs J Peart’s Kilfinan Mister Moonlight for Talluarchy Different type to 1 and 2 but lots to like.
