I would like to thank the Committee and Members of the Bearded Collie Club of Scotland for their kind invitation to me to judge at their Open Show. I would also like to thank my steward on the day Mr Don Moir for organising the ring so effectively and with such good humour. Finally my thanks to the competitors for taking the time and trouble to enter, prepare their exhibits and travel to the show.
I have not visited this venue previously and the setting is one of the most attractive I have attended for a show. We started the day in fine weather which fortunately just lasted till the major awards were resolved. It was also our good fortune that temperaments were generally very sound as a local gardener, complete with petrol hedge trimmer, began work very close to the ring part way through the dog classes. I felt there was a great deal of quality on show throughout the age ranges. Overall the majority of exhibits were very well presented and in good hard physical condition.
Dogs
Special Vintage Dog: 1 entry
1. Mr A Hosie – Ch. Ciopar Flash Fishchella. A 12 year old slate boy carrying his age well. A broad flat head, lovely eye and pigment. No mistaking his masculinity, good overall shape and length coming from his length of rib and in hard physical condition. He maintains his shape well when standing and on the move. A credit to his owner.
Veteran Dog: 3 entries, 1 absent
1. Mrs A M Glasgow - Ch. Gallus Absolute Quality JW ShCM . A very well presented brown dog just over 8 years old. Well-proportioned head, well pigmented and eye that tones with coat. Well matched angulation front and rear and good shape of rib. Excelled when on the move displaying great balance and extension and fully in tune with his handler. BD and BoS
2. Mesdames Gill and Cook - Gillaber Ballater. A well-made dog with the most melting expression and the darkest of eye. A correct head with good strength of muzzle. Moved well but preferred overall size of winner.

1. Mrs S Steel - Braedoon Beathan. A brown boy with an attractive outline, and just 7 months old. Eye that toned with coat and strong well placed teeth. Excellent pigment throughout and head which will fill in time. Well angulated shoulders, correctly shaped rib along with the shortest of loin. Very well-schooled and confident.

2. Mrs S Steel - Braedoon Beathan.
Junior Dog: 1 entry
1. Ms S Gibb - Snikkles Bluebeard at Pirateer. Fourteen month old blue boy with correct head and good pigmentation. Well-shaped rib of good length. Coat at paling stage with eye to match. In harmony with his handler and well-presented.
Yearling Dog: 2 entries.
1. Mrs A M Glasgow - J B De Chester at Gallus. A 19 month old blue dog of correct proportion, well pigmented with correct head. Good depth of chest and well angulated front and rear. Nice overall shape when free standing and covered the ground effortlessly on the move. Preferred the more balanced angulation of this dog to the second.
2. Ms S Gibb - Snikkles Bluebeard at Pirateer.
Novice Dog: 1 entry
1. Ms P.Buchanan-Hislop - Ciopar Celtic Little Bear.
Debutant Dog: 2 entries
1. Ms P.Buchanan-Hislop - Ciopar Celtic Little Bear.
2. Mr N M Broadbridge and Mrs S Broadbridge and Muir - Sallen Rhydwyn. A three year old brown boy. An old fashioned type. Well made but rather proud of his tail on the move today.
Undergraduate Dog: 3 entries
1. Ms V Gamble - Talraz Look to the Future. Three year old slate dog, unexaggerated in any respect. Well-balanced head and lovely expression. Handled and presented to bring the best out of him. It was his great balance and true movement which won him the class.
2. Ms S Gibb - Snikkles Bluebeard at Pirateer.
3. Mr N M Broadbridge and Mrs S Broadbridge and Muir - Sallen Rhydwyn.
Graduate Dog: 5 entries, 1 absent
1. Mrs B Handley and Mr K Handley – Invercoyle Caperdonich at Barkenbear. A two year old blue maturing nicely. Nicely proportioned head with sound pigmentation. Well-proportioned dog with good length of rib and short loin. Balanced angles front and rear and in excellent muscular condition. Well-presented and handled, he moved effortlessly to take the class.
2. Mrs A M Glasgow - J B De Chester at Gallus.
3. Ms V Gamble - Talraz Look to the Future.
Post Graduate Dog: 4 entries, 1 withdrawn
1. Mrs C Ryan and Black – Braedoon Highland Laddie at Razcal JW ShCM. No mistaking the masculinity of this strongly made three year old brown boy. Good head with strong muzzle. Well pigmented and developing a deep brown coat with a slight wave. He presented an elegant outline when free standing and although somewhat boisterous on the move held his topline well. In excellent muscular condition and much more settled in a later class.
2. Mrs F and Mr A W Steel – Invercoyle Dallas Dhu. Unfortunate to meet 1 today. Two year old well-made slate boy. Correctly proportioned head with good pigmentation, sound in the body and another in good muscular condition, but without the maturity of the first placed dog.
3. Mrs B Handley and Mr K Handley – Invercoyle Caperdonich at Barkenbear
Limit Dog: 3 entries, 1 absent
1. Mrs C Ryan and Black – Braedoon Highland Laddie at Razcal JW ShCM
2. Mrs B and Mr K Handley - Bargemon Beauford Tourer at Barkenbear ShCM. At six years old in excellent condition in all respects. Good head with excellent pigmentation and dentition. A pale brown well coated boy he was beautifully presented and in hard physical condition. An elegant dog when standing but somewhat unruly on the move.
Open Dog: 1 entry
1. Mrs B and Mr K Handley - Bargemon Beauford Tourer at Barkenbear ShCM.
Bitches
Special Vintage Bitch: 3 entries
1. Mrs A M Glasgow - Gallus Living the Dream. A ten year old slate bitch whose age belies her condition. Very feminine well shaped lady with a melting expression. In quality condition in both body and coat. Held her topline well when moving. BSV
2. Ms P Buchanan-Hislop – Ciopar Celtic Coulthard. Another grand slate girl of 12 years of age. Close up to one but without the overall condition.
3. Mrs H Laing – Bustroc Kissin My Kate. A ten year old attractive slate bitch enjoying her day out. Did not compete on the move with the two bitches ahead of her.
Veteran Bitch: 2 entries
1. Mr A Hosie - Ch. Gillaber Balnacara at Aliskye JW. An eight year old plain slate bitch presented in immaculate condition in all respects. Correctly proportioned head with good pigmentation and darkest eye. Good length and shape of rib. She is a picture standing and excels with her reach and drive on the move. BV, BViS
2. Ms P Buchanan-Hislop – Ciopar Celtic Chancer. Nine year old slate bitch with good head and of sound construction, well-handled and presented. Not as settled as first on the move which could well have been attributed to the hedge cutting close by.
Minor Puppy Bitch: 1 entry
1. Mr W G B and Mrs J Costello – Breagha Des Emeraudes De Lac to Calkylona (Imp). Just 7 months old this attractive slate bitch was very settled for her age. Sound head and well-made body with good length of rib and good angulation front and rear. She was balanced and stable on the move and well-schooled by her handler. Lost out in maturity to the best puppy bitch but nonetheless a promising young puppy.
Puppy Bitch: 1 entry
1. Mr J Duncan - Ciopar Dream Catcher at Duncannas. This 10 month old slate bitch was well on for her age in both coat and condition. Nicely proportioned head with good eye and expression and nicely arched neck. I liked her rib shape and length and her shoulder angulation. Well balanced girl when moving but could not quite match her litter brother in the challenge for BPiS. BOSP
Junior Bitch: 2 entries
1. Mr J Duncan - Ciopar Dream Catcher at Duncannas
2. Mrs J Goodbrand – Kiltondale Isn’t She Lovely For Braesnobel. At thirteen months of age this slate bitch was very well presented by her young handler. Well pigmented and with eyes that tone with her coat which is at the in-between stage at present. She is well proportioned and is a picture standing but could not match the fluidity of first when moving.
Yearling Bitch: 1 entry
1. Mrs H Laing – Franlane Time Will Tell. At almost two years of age this well named young bitch is a slow maturing old fashioned type of beardie. She is nicely proportioned and a correct shape when standing. She is both well balanced and true on the move and sets herself up well. Her coat is not abundant but of the harshest texture and is developing slowly. Will take time to reach her best but is well worth persevering with.
Maiden Bitch: 1 entry
1. Mrs H Laing – Franlane Time Will Tell
Post Graduate Bitch: 4 entries, 1 absent
1. Mrs F and Mr A W Steel - Invercoyle Erdradour. At just over two years old this strongly made blue bitch is maturing well. Correctly proportioned head with strong muzzle, good pigment and dentition. Well-shaped with a nicely arched neck and a natural stance. She has a quality coat coming on and was very well presented and moved in harmony with her handler. Close up in the Challenge.
2. Mrs J Jemmett - Westbere Whispering Angel. Another strongly made girl, this four year old slate is of correct proportions, well coated and soundly made. With balanced angles front and rear she comes into her own on the move.
3. Mrs J Goodbrand – Dychix Whistles and Bells at Braesnobel. At almost three years of age this slate girl has a lovely expression. Good length and shape of rib but lacked the drive of first and second when moving today.
Limit Bitch: 7 entries, 2 absent
1. Mr and Mrs R Ballantyne and Mr and Mrs J Evans - Balbridge Nansies Kiss JW. At three and a half years of age this dark slate girl headed this class of well-matched bitches. She is correctly proportioned and sets herself well when standing, has a well-proportioned head with the darkest of eye. She was handled with empathy and well-presented. She took this strong class with her effortless and purposeful ground covering movement. RBB, RBiS
2. Ms P Buchanan-Hislop - Ciopar Celtic Mine Alone. Slightly smaller in stature than the first placed bitch this three year old is well shaped with an elegant neck. I liked the length and shape of her ribs and she has the shortest of loins. She was well presented and in hard muscular condition.
3. Miss E and Mrs J Peart – Talluarchy Angel Wings ShCM This five year old slate completed a strong trio at the head of the class. A very feminine bitch, with a lovely expression sound pigmentation and correct head. Although well-constructed she lacked the drive of first and second when moving today.
Open Bitch: 4 entries
1. Mrs A M Glasgow - Gallus Fortune Cookie ShCM. Very feminine bitch with immaculately presented close fitting coat. She has a lovely shape which immediately took my eye and was not disappointing to go over. Head of the correct proportions with good pigment and a lovely eye. A slightly arched neck with well laid shoulders, correctly shaped in the rib and the shortest of loin she has a sound natural stance. Took top honours when displaying her effortless ground covering gait. BB, BiS
2. Dr S A Savage and Mr D McLean - Clovabrae Solar Flair. A medium slate bitch of correct proportions but would prefer a darker eye. Although very well-constructed and balanced when moving she lacked the drive of the winner.
3. Mrs J Jemmett - Westbere Whispering Angel
Special Working Dog or Bitch: 1 entry
1. Miss E and Mrs J Peart – Mostonbrae Angel of Peace for Talluarchy. A ten year old slate bitch in excellent physical condition and well turned out. Strongly made and well-proportioned with good length of rib and short in the loin. Well balanced on the move.
ADDITIONAL CLASSES FOLLOWING BiS
Special Champion Class: 5 entered, 1 absent
1. Mrs B and Mr K Handley - Ch. Bargemon Baryshnikov at Barkenbear JW ShCM. A very masculine boy with good head and eye. Moved so easily with balance and ground covering stride. Stood out in this excellent class due to his exceptional muscular condition which his handler must work very hard to maintain.
2. Mr A Hosie - Ch. Gillaber Balnacara at Aliskye JW
3. Mrs A M Glasgow - Ch. Gallus Absolute Quality JW ShCM
Brace Class: 4 entered, 1 absent, 1 withdrawn
1. Peart’s Brace – The movement together of this matched pair was the deciding factor in this class.
2. Handley’s Brace.
Progeny: 1 entry
1. Ch. Bargemon Baryshnikov at Barkenbear JW ShCM
