Bearded Collie Club Of Scotland Championship Show – 23rd October 2021
Judge: Cath Parker (Osmart)

Thank you to my stewards and also the Club for inviting me. There were a number of dogs with very light eyes, so losing that gentle expression. In the last few years there seems to have been a number of dogs with ‘short legs’ and I was pleased to say that was not the case today.

A big thank you to the exhibitors for such an excellent entry and as always it was a privilege to be allowed to get my hands on quality dogs. In some classes the quality meant that I could have done with more red cards and the final decision came down to my own personal preference. I never find it easy to write critiques, as it always feels like you are trying to justify your placings, whilst in my opinion the placings reflect your view of the dog.

DOGS:

Minor Puppy Dog 2(0)
1st - Ayrton’s Aoibh Drummer Boy
Just short of 9 months. His adult coat is starting to come in. However, the lack of jacket meant that his shape and balance was on full view. Hands on did not disappoint. He moved out well. All in all he shows promised for the future. BOS PUPPY
2nd - Jemmett’s Braemoor’s Bounding Out Voor Westbere (IMP NLD) NAF
Correctly made baby out at his first show. Just 6 months, he is correctly made and balanced at this stage. Moved out well and just very unfortunate to meet the more mature winner on the day.

Puppy Dog 3(0)
1st - Ayrton’s Aoibh Drummer Boy
2nd - Handley’s Bargemon Brigadoon At Barkenbear
Shape and proportions looked good when standing. However, I preferred the front and depth of chest of winner. Also movement could have been more settled.
3rd - Jemmett’s Braemoor’s Bounding Out Voor Westbere (IMP NLD) NAF

Junior Dog 1(0)
1st - Handley’s Bargemon Brigadoon At Barkenbear

Yearling Dog 3(0)
1st - Ryan’s Dychix Invictus For Razkal
Good head, dark eye and gentle expression. Proportions were good, excellent front assembly and strong rear. Movement was OK but would have liked a little more extension.
2nd - Buchanan-Hislop’s Ciopar Celtic Cherokee
Not as mature as winner, however there is much to like about him. Size and proportions give a pleasing outline. Hands on didn’t disappoint and he moved out well. Just felt he definitely needed time to reach his full potential.
3rd - Gill & Hosie’s Burnhock Superior Diamond For Gillaber
Shown in good hard condition and certainly very glamorous. On first look I would have said he was down on his feet and from the rear cow hocked. However, this was not the case but simply due to excessively hairy feet! Movement could have been more animated.

Novice Dog 4(4)
1st - Ayrton’s Aoibh Drummer Boy
2nd - Ryan’s Dychix Invictus For Razkal
3rd - Buchanan-Hislop’s Ciopar Deltic Cherokee

Debutant Dog 5(5)
1st - Kirby’s Finesk The Dancing Master
Loved his head and expression. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulders. Strong rear and he moved out so well. Excellent coat texture. All round a good honest Beardie.
2nd - Ayrton’s Aoibh Drummer Boy
3rd - Ryan’s Dychix Invictus For Razkal

Graduate Dog 6(0)
1st - Peart’s Kilfinan Mister Moonlight For Talluarchy
Not a glamour boy but a good honest type. Good head with gentle expression. Pleasing front and excellent rib. Solid rear and I certainly enjoyed his movement.
2nd - Kirby’s Finesk The Dancing Master
3rd - Kuz’s Duncannas Special Edition At Strufingill
Not as mature as winner. His adult jacket is still coming in but of a good harsh texture. Good front, depth of chest and rear angulation. Moved out well.

Post graduate Dog 4(0)
I am sure that over the years 1st and 2nd will often swop places. Sadly today I only had 1 red card !
1st - Wood’s Pepperjay Bartholomew JW
When I judged him back in 2019 I said correctly made, balanced with no exaggeration which made him pleasing both to the eye and to go over. He has matured well, my only criticism would be his head, which although masculine I would like a little more size. He moved out well today.
2nd - Leckenby’s Kiltondale Chicago Flame
Again, I stand by my comments in 2019 – promising youngster with the kindest of expressions. Well made, deep chest, good shoulders, correct rear which allowed him to move with ease.
3rd - Hinchcliffe’s Pretty Bear Zweet Dream At Croftdale (IMP DEU)
Older than above winners. In good condition and excellent harsh coat. Pleasing angulation and rib. Moved out well.

Mid Limit Dog 2(0)
1st - Hinchcliffe’s Pretty Bear Beautiful Bill At Croftdale (IMP DEU)
Well made brown with pleasing head but would prefer a darker eye. Good harsh coat. Moved out well.
2nd - Savage & McLean’s Talraz Comic Relief At Canaich JW
Short in length than winner. Would like more neck. Well angulated and put down in first class condition. Moved out well.

Limit Dog 4(1)
1st - Costello’s Bradiba’s Brilliant Nutmeg Muffin At Calkylona (IMP DEU)
Well presented brown with lots to like. Harsh jacket, well placed shoulder and rear angulation. Once settled moved well.
2nd - Waldron’s Snowmead Super Sleuth
Not on best behaviour and not easy to go over. Moved out well but certainly challenged his handler.
3rd - Hinchcliffe’s Pretty Bear Zweet Dream AT Croftdale (IMP DEU)

Open Dog 6(0)
1st - Robertson’s Arranbrae Laird Of Quothquan JW
A dog I’ve admired in the past but doesn’t always present well in the ring. Today I was pleased to award him the Dog CC. Today he made the most of himself. In hard but lean condition I felt he could have done a days work. He has good proportions and balance. Masculine head, dark eye and gentle expression. Good reach of neck, depth of chest and length of rib. Well angulated powerful rear which certainly showed in his movement and drive. All this topped off with a correct harsh jacket.
2nd - Leckenby’s Kiltondale Amarillo Star
Unfortunate to meet the winner. One I have placed previously and I haven’t changed my view of him. Strong masculine head but with a kind expression. Good reach of neck, correct front, good deep chest and strong rear. Again his movement was effortless.
3rd - Waldron’s Ch Snowmead Shades Of Gray JW
Well presented in good hard condition. He is balanced but would like more length of neck. He moved well however for me today he lacked animation and that little something extra.

Veteran Dog 5(1)
1st - Handley’s Invercoyle Caperdonich At Barkenbear
Only just a veteran and shown in good hard condition. Good proportions, excellent angulation and moved with ease. Pleased to award him the reserve CC.
2nd - Carter’s Edenborough Edge Of Glory
Almost a vintage. Well made and shown in good condition. By far the best mover in the class. Just not quite holding his top line.
3rd - Gamble’s Talraz Look To The Future At Capelaw ShCM
Shown in good condition, well made but front not as good as two above, Moved out well.

Special Vintage Dog 0(0)
Special Beginners Dog 0(0)

Special Open Dog 1(0)
1st - Kuz’s Duncannas Special Edition At Strufingill

BITCHES:

Minor Puppy Bitch 3(0)
1st - McDougall’s Clanmac’s Hey There Delilah
Every so often you see a puppy and just know she has been here before. Brown 6 months and 1 week old. At this stage she is very balanced with no exaggeration. Moved with confidence and for me she was just everything you wanted at this stage. Pleased to award her Best Puppy in Show.
2nd - Salter’s Irisaddition Love Actually
A little rangier than the winner but still much to like and shows promise. Excellent front, good rib and moved out well.
3rd - McKelvie’s Thingamebob Perfect Pickle
Abundance of coat hiding a good correct shape. Not too settled on the move.

Puppy Bitch 4(1)
1st - McDougall’s Clanmac’s Hey There Delilah
2nd - Curry's Megamaree Shining Star At Davankirk
Once she settled moved out well. A little over awed by the venue. Pleasing shape. Excellent head. Good angulation.
3rd - McKelvie’s Thingamebob Perfect Pickle

Junior Bitch 1(0)
1st - Whelan & Young’s Corimist Destiny By Design
Feminine but a little larger than I would like and more mature than I would expect at this age. Correctly made, very glamorous and shown in first class condition. I particularly enjoyed her free movement.

Yearling Bitch 2(0)
1st - Kuz’s Kiltondale Memphis Belle At Strufingill
Well made bitch. Still gaining a full jacket but the texture was excellent. Good depth of chest. Good rear angulation which was reflected in her movement.
2nd - Robertson’s Heathermist Miss Tillietudlem At Qhothquan (IMP SWE)
Nice type but finer in body than winner. Harsh jacket is only partly finished at the moment and contains many shades of brown. Very easy mover.

Novice Bitch 1(0)
1st - Kuz’s Kiltondale Memphis Belle At Strufingill

Debutant Bitch 1(0)
1st - Kirby’s Finesk Bratach Bana
Nice type, very honest. Length of hair makes her look to be down on her feet. Good Harsh coat covering a pleasing body. Moved out well.

Graduate Bitch 4(1)
1st - Johnston’s Corimist Fashion Star
She is everything I could ask for, feminine with a very gentle expression. Excellent head and dark eye. Good reach of neck, good angulation and balanced. Her movement was so free and easy. Pleased to award her the CC and BIS.
2nd - Ayrton’s Aoibh Fiery Flamenco JW
A lot to like about this girl. However, preferred front of winner. Good length of rib, strong rear angulation. Good harsh jacket. Sound mover.
3rd - Gamble’s Talraz By Firelight To Capelaw
Nothing flash about her but a very honest bitch. Has to be gone over to be appreciated. Moved out well.

Post Graduate Bitch 6(1)
1st - Peirson’s Kiltondale Kinkyboots JW
Good type. Excellent head, dark eye and gentle expression. Correctly made, good angulation and finished off with a good jacket. Her movement was effortless. Sure that 1st and 2nd will change places many times over the years.
2nd - Whelan & Young’s Corimist Glamour Girl
Certainly well named. Presented in first class condition and in total accord with her handler. Slightly larger than winner but that said she is balanced and free from exaggeration. Her movement not quite as extended as winner.
3rd - Glasgow’s Malandex Xpat’s Gem AT Gallus JW
Sound type and very honest. Moved out well but for me she just lacked that bit of sparkle.

Mid Limit Bitch 1(0)
1st - Jemmett’s Philemon Keltic Magic For Westbere (IMP DEU)
Feminine and shown in good hard condition. Well constructed free from exaggeration. Would have like a little more extension on the move.

Limit Bitch 4(0)
1st - Gill & Hosie’s Malandex French Xpectation For Gillabar
Very flashy feminine bitch. Good head and expression. Well made and balanced. Jacket of correct texture. Movement was good.
2nd - Peirson’s Denters Whirlwinds Broadway Baby JW (IMP DEU)
Unlucky to meet winner. Pleasing head and dark eye. Good front and rear assembly. Moved out well.
3rd - Ayrton’s Aoibh Skylark
Sound honest bitch. Not quite as mature as above two but she has much to offer. And sure her day will come. She extends well on the move.

Open Bitch 6(0)
1st - Salter’s Irisaddition Effie Trinket JW
Very elegant bitch who was a joy to go over. Good construction and balance. Good jacket. Her movement was effortless and flowing. Pleased to award her the Res BCC and Res BIS.
2nd - Wallis’ Calowych Christmas Cracker JW
Unlucky to meet winner. Well presented in good condition. Pleasing head. Good lay of shoulder and strong rear. Moved out well.
3rd - Jellie’s Kiltondale Material Gril At Jellwell
Nice bitch who certainly enjoys the ring. Good shape, didn’t disappoint in the hands on. Moved out well.

Veteran Bitch 5(2)
This was a very nice class.
1st - Savage & McLean’s Clovabrae Solar Flair ShCM
Very happy girl who was a delight to go over. Balanced construction which was certainly reflected in her movement. Pleased to award her Best Veteran.
2nd - Wood’s Ch Pipadene Visionary Spirit For Pepperjay JW
Shown in good condition. Well made with balance. Moved out well.
3rd - Robertson’s Kiltondale Liadhich With Quothquan ShCM
Another who is almost a vintage. Well constructed without exaggeration and carries no excess weight. Good mover.

Special Vintage Bitch 2(0)
1st - Wood’s Pattishawl She’s A Dream For Pepperjay
12 years old and doesn’t look or act it. Correctly made with a good shape. Moved out well. Pleased to award her Best Special Vintage and Overall Best Veteran in Show.
2nd - Peart’s Talluarchy Angel Wings ShCM VW
10 years old. Another in good condition, slightly lighter than first. Lost out to winner on movement.

Special Beginners Bitch 0(0)

Special Open Bitch 2(1)
1st - Buchanan-Hislop’s Ciopar Celtic Mine Alone
8 years old. Good shape but unfortunately did not hold her topline on the move. Movement was also a little lack lustre.
