THE BEARDED COLLIE CLUB OF SCOTLAND
OPEN SHOW - SATURDAY 4 MARCH 2017
I was delighted to be given the opportunity by Club members to judge at this super show in Scotland. Many thanks to the hard working committee for a well organised show and for their warm hospitality throughout the day. I would particularly like to thank my excellent steward Don Moir for his unobtrusive efficiency.
I found the overall quality of the exhibits to be sound and in some of the classes there were difficult decisions to be made. I was very pleased with the quality of my main winners and I hope that everyone enjoyed their day as much as I enjoyed mine!

Special Vintage Dog (1)
1. Mesdames Gill and Cook’s CH RAMSGROVE HOMEWARD BOUND TO GILLABER JW Sh CM – An 11 year old blue male in super condition that belied his age. Lovely head and expression. Good layback of shoulder and correct length of back. Still in excellent coat. Moved with reach and drive, covering the ground well. BEST SPECIAL VINTAGE IN SHOW

Veteran Dog (2)
My notes say, a pair of super brown gentlemen.
1. Mrs Glasgow’s CH GALLUS ABSOLUTE QUALITY JW Sh CM – A quality brown male with good eye colour toning with coat. Well laid back shoulders and correct rib. Well balanced overall and strongly muscled. Retained his topline on the move.
2. Mr and Mrs Handley’s BARGEMON BEAUFORD TOURER OF BARKENBEAR Sh CM – Another quality male with fantastic muscle. This boy often does his best to ruin his own chances and, in this class, he was not giving his handler an easy ride although in the later Open class he presented a different picture altogether.

Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1. Mr and Mrs Kirby’s FINESK TAK ME AWA – 8 month old slate baby boy with good pigment and eye colour and a sweet expression. Ample length of rib, good proportions and well coated. Just needs to concentrate on the move to show off his attributes to advantage.
2. Mr and Mrs Kirby’s FINESK AWA WHIGS AWA – Brown litter brother to 1. A sound baby overall but much less settled than his brother today.

Puppy Dog (4:1)
1. Mr and Mrs Robertson’s ARRANBRAE LAIRD OF QUOTHQUAN – At 9 months old this super puppy won this class by some margin. He has a clean outline, good length to height ratio and ample depth of rib. So well balanced overall with the resultant reach in front and excellent drive from the rear. Topped with a super masculine head and such a melting expression with a definite glint in his eye – he won me over! Loved him. BEST PUPPY AND RESERVE BEST DOG
2. Mr and Mrs Kirby’s FINESK TAK ME AWA
3. Mr and Mrs Kirby’s FINESK AWA WHIGS AWA

Junior Dog (4:2)
1. Mr and Mrs Robertson’s ARRANBRAE LAIRD OF QUOTHQUAN
2. Mrs Steel’s BRAEDOON BEATHAN – 15 months old with a good head and eye colour. Ample reach of neck and correct shoulders. Well proportioned overall and a coat of good texture coming through. Today, in this inside venue, his movement was not his fortune and he was making his handler work hard to bring out his best.

Yearling Dog (3:1)
1. Ms Gibb’s SNIKKLES BLUEBEARD AT PIRATEER JW – Super, well presented blue boy. Well made throughout with a strong head, good reach of neck and well laid back shoulders, correct rib and sound depth of chest. Good level topline and moved out well, driving from the rear. As expected for his age, he needs time to mature but he has sound foundations on which to build for the future. Will watch his development with interest.
2. Ms Buchanan-Hislop’s CIOPAR CELTIC LITTLE BEAR – A sound and balanced slate male who was presented in good order. He moved out well, once settled, but could not match 1 today.

Maiden Dog (3:2)
1. Mr and Mrs Robertson’s ARRANBRAE LAIRD OF QUOTHQUAN

Novice Dog (3:2)
1. Mr and Mrs Robertson’s ARRANBRAE LAIRD OF QUOTHQUAN

Debutant Dog (1)
1. Mrs Laing’s FRANLANE BRIG O’DOONE – Standing alone in this class, slate male with a sweet, melting expression and a dark eye. Good overall proportions and topped with a super jacket. Moved soundly but his tail carriage spoilt his general outline today.

Undergraduate Dog (1)
1. Mrs Laing’s FRANLANE BRIG O’DOONE

Graduate Dog (2)
1. Ms Buchanan-Hislop’s CIOPAR CELTIC LITTLE BEAR – Much more settled in this class than earlier in the day.
2. Ms Gamble’s TALRAZ LOOK TO THE FUTURE AT CAPELAW Sh CM – A sound male with good pigmentation and a lovely dark eye. Good reach of neck and correct shoulders and rib. Level topline, moved and showed well but could not match the drive of 1 today.

Post Graduate Dog (5:1)
1. Mrs Glasgow’s J.B. DE CHESTER AT GALLUS – Super, strongly made blue male. Noteworthy head and a pleasing expression. Deep chest, good neck and well laid back shoulders. Correct rib and good length of back. Sound angulation fore and aft. His free flowing movement won him this class and also BEST DOG AND BEST OPPOSITE SEX IN SHOW
2. Mesdames Gill and Cook and Mr Hosie’s GILLABER BENROMACH – Another quality male of sound construction throughout. Lovely head and expression. Good length of neck, well laid back shoulders , good length of rib and level topline. Presented to perfection as always from this kennel. Today, he could not match the drive of 1 on top form.
3. Mr and Mrs Steel’s INVERCOYLE DALLAS DHU – Well, what a look from those dark eyes: I should have dropped down dead on the spot! This quality boy with attitude (!) completed a trio of excellent males in this class.

Mid Limit Dog (1)
1. Mr and Mrs Handley’s INVERCOYLE CAPERDONICH AT BARKENBEAR – Stood alone in this class but a quality male nevertheless who moved out with confidence in the ring. Placed reserve in the previous class but this blue boy has time on his side to mature. Loved him when I judged him as a puppy and no doubt that he will reach his earlier potential; he just needs more time.

Limit Dog (1)
1. Mrs Ryan and Mrs Black’s BRAEDOON HIGHLAND LADDIE AT RAZKAL JW Sh CM – Brown male with a super masculine head and a gentle expression. Good eye colour toning with coat. Correct length to height proportions. Lacked sparkle on the move today and was making his handler work hard to bring out the best of him.

Open Dog (2)
1. Mr and Mrs Handley’s BARGEMON BEAUFORD TOURER OF BARKENBEAR Sh CM – As stated earlier, this boy presented a much improved picture in this class and showed himself to good advantage.
2. Mrs Ryan and Mrs Black’s BRAEDOON HIGHLAND LADDIE AT RAZKAL JW Sh CM

----------------------------------

Special Vintage Bitch (2)
1. Mrs Glasgow’s GALLUS LIVING THE DREAM – What a feminine bitch in such lovely condition for her 11 years. Good length to height ratios, a level topline and such a melting expression. Moved with grace whilst covering the ground with ease. A credit to her owner.
2. Ms Buchan-Hislop’s CIOPAR CELTIC CHANCER – Another lovely vintage girl who was enjoying her time in the spotlight and deservedly so. Shown to her full potential.

Veteran Bitch (1)
1. Mr Hosie’s CH GILLABER BALNACARA AT ALISKYE JW – What a quality girl and a well deserved Champion. Super head and soft expression with eyes only for her owner/handler. Lovely reach of neck and layback of shoulders and she held a level topline throughout. Superbly presented and in such good condition. She powered around the ring to match the youngsters. Thank you for bringing her. I was pleased to award her BEST VETERAN AND BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)
1. Mrs Hall’s ALCHERINGA PERFECT CHOICE – Stood alone in this class, a 7 month baby. Loved her sweet expression. Good proportional length of back and a sound rear. Moved well for one so young.

Puppy Bitch (3)
1. Ms V Gamble’s IN VOGUE ISLAND MISS FRANCE AT CAPELAW (IMP FRA) – Sweet, slate little lady with a nice expression and a dark eye. Well constructed with good overall outline. When settled, she moved out well to top this class.
2. Mrs F Haymarch’s ARRANBRAE SPANISH EYES – another sweet baby, well balanced with correct proportions. Coat of good quality starting to come through. Moved soundly but did not have the reach of 1 today.
3. Mrs A Higgins’ INNKALIES MISS MARPLE - This little lady was leading her handler a merry dance ...but she was enjoying herself! An attractive girl nevertheless who will no doubt settle as she matures and her handler gains in confidence to bring out the best of her.

Junior Bitch (5)
One of the hardest decisions of the day deciding between 1 and 2 in this class and I am sure that these 2 could well change places on another day.
1. Mrs Salter’s IRISADDITION EFFIE TRINKET – This little lady oozes breed type and good quality through and through. Correct in all aspects and looking so impressive. Gentle but cheeky expression shouting ‘look at me’. Good length of rib and excellent rear assembly contributing to her easy, effortless, ground covering movement and handled to illustrate her best attributes. One destined for the top drawer; I will watch her development with interest.
2. Dr and Mrs Fox’s BRAEMOOR’S START THE PARTY WITH BUSHBLADES (IMP NL) – Another quality girl and unlucky to meet 1 today. Good head and feminine expression, excellent reach of neck and layback of shoulder, good length of back and well angulated. An excellent mover with reach and drive in abundance resulting from her sound construction. Another to watch in future I suspect.
3. Ms V Gamble’s IN VOGUE ISLAND MISS FRANCE AT CAPELAW (IMP FRA)

Yearling Bitch (3)
1. Mrs Salter’s IRISADDITION EFFIE TRINKET
2. Dr and Mrs Fox’s BRAEMOOR’S START THE PARTY WITH BUSHBLADES (IMP NL)
3. Mr Duncan’s CIOPAR DREAM CATCHER AT DUNCANNAS - A quality girl of sound type however, she was distracted today and sadly did not show herself to her best advantage.

Maiden Bitch (1)
1. Mrs F Haymarch’s ARRANBRAE SPANISH EYES

Novice Bitch (3)
1. Ms V Gamble’s IN VOGUE ISLAND MISS FRANCE AT CAPELAW (IMP FRA)
2. Mr and Mrs Costello’s BREAGHA DES EMERAUDES DU LAC TO CALKYLONA (IMP) – Placed Reserve in Junior Bitch. Sweet feminine expression and eyes toning with coat. Well presented but a little unsettled however she moved steadily once she got into her stride.
3. Mrs A Higgins’ INNKALIES MISS MARPLE

Debutant Bitch (2)
1. Ms V Gamble’s IN VOGUE ISLAND MISS FRANCE AT CAPELAW (IMP FRA)
2. Mrs H Laing’s FRANLANE TIME WILL TELL – A sound, honest girl with the sweetest of expressions and a gentle eye. Good neck, well laid shoulder and nice length of back with ample rib. Moved out well.

Undergraduate Bitch (4)
1. Dr and Mrs Fox’s BRAEMOOR’S START THE PARTY WITH BUSHBLADES (IMP NL)
2. Ms V Gamble’s IN VOGUE ISLAND MISS FRANCE AT CAPELAW (IMP FRA)
3. Mrs H Laing’s FRANLANE TIME WILL TELL

Graduate Bitch (4:1)
1. Mrs Salter’s IRISADDITION EFFIE TRINKET
2. Dr and Mrs Fox’s BRAEMOOR’S START THE PARTY WITH BUSHBLADES (IMP NL)
3. Mr and Mrs Wallis’ BARGEMON TOSCA – Soundly constructed with good head and expression. Moved out well but she did not have the drive of 1 and 2

Post Graduate Bitch (2)
1. Mrs Jemmett’s HIGHGLADE ICE DIAMOND FOR WESTBERE JW – what a delightful temperament, her tail did not stop wagging! A blue girl with a sweet expression and eyes toning with coat. Good reach of neck and ample rib, sound rear quarters and moved out well driving from the rear.
2. Mr and Mrs Steel’s INVERCOYLE ERDRADOUR – A nicely constructed bitch all through with a gorgeous expression. Presented a super profile standing but, for me, she could lose a few pounds to advantage and this would allow her to be shown to full potential.

Mid Limit Bitch (5)
1. Mesdames Gill and Cook and Mr Hosie’s GILLABER BENACHIE JW – My notes say ‘beautiful’. Immaculately presented and so well constructed from her most appealing head and expression to her good neck, lay of shoulder, correct rib and length of back and excellent angulation all through. As expected from her construction, she did not disappoint on the move and flowed around the ring effortlessly whilst hardly appearing to touch the floor. Today she could not be beaten and I was delighted to award her BEST BITCH AND BEST IN SHOW
2. Ms Buchanan-Hislop’s CIOPAR CELTIC MINE ALONE – Another quality bitch. Good head and eye, sporting a nicely textured jacket and she moved out well as implied by her construction but she could not match the drive of 1.
3. Mrs Jemmett’s WESTBERE WHISPERING ANGEL - this lady was giving of her all for her owner/handler. Such a gorgeous expression from her eyes of pools of soft darkness and soundly constructed to round off a trio of quality girls in this class.

Limit Bitch (4)
1. Dr and Mrs Fox and Miss Farrier’s BUSHBLADES CAUSIN’ A STORM WITH KAYANARRA – A beautifully balanced, quality slate bitch displaying her many positive attributes. Correct body proportions with an excellent expressive and feminine head. Good neck and length of back. Rear and front assembly all good and this was exemplified through her fluid yet purposeful movement. She gave her all today and I was pleased to award her RESERVE BEST BITCH AND RESERVE BEST IN SHOW
2. Ms Buchanan-Hislop’s CIOPAR CELTIC MINE ALONE
3. Dr Savage and Mr Mclean’s CLOVABRAE SOLAR FLAIR – A quality girl, placed Reserve in the previous class. Lovely lines standing but her tail carriage was not doing her any favours today and spoilt her outline on the move.

Open Bitch (4:1)
1. Mrs Glasgow’s GALLUS FORTUNE COOKIE Sh CM – Have judged this lady before and loved her then and still do. A very feminine bitch with a sweet expression. Good front assembly, ample length of rib and excellent angulation all through. Moved out well with reach and drive to cover the ground with ease. Presented in excellent condition and topped this class with some margin to spare.
2. Mr and Mrs Peart’s TALLUARCHY ANGEL WINGS Sh CM – A sweet bitch with a gentle expression and super type. Nice reach of neck, good shoulder and length of back. She moved with a lightness of foot that suggested she could have carried on all day.
3. Mr and Mrs Steel’s OSMART BELLE IN BLACK SATIN AT INVERCOYLE – Another quality girl of sound construction. She lacked animation today but sound nevertheless.

Special Champion Class (3)
Thank you for exhibiting these three super Champions today; it was a delight to have the opportunity to put my hands on them.
1. Mr and Mrs Handley’s CH BARGEMON BARYSHNIKOV AT BARKENBEAR JW Sh CM – I have long admired this quality boy and it was such a pleasure to be given the opportunity to judge him today. What more can I say that has not been said already? He excels in construction, has an expression to die for and moves as if he could carry on forever and is so well muscled. What a well deserved Champion!
2. Mr Hosie’s CH GILLABER BALNACARA AT ALISKYE JW
3. Mrs Glasgow’s CH GALLUS ABSOLUTE QUALITY JW Sh CM
