Bearded Collie Club Of Scotland Championship Show – 5th October 2019
Judge: Paula Brooks (Fraglestone)

Thank you to the Officers and Committee of the BCCS for a well organised show. The relaxed atmosphere and professionalism of all involved is a credit to you. It was also lovely to see and have a catch up with the Club’s Patron, Margaret MacDonald-Cross. There were parties for special Birthday’s and Champion title wins and of course a very special marriage proposal for Ruairidh and Lauren…Congratulations to you all.

Thank you to my most capable Stewards, Dick and Alan for keeping my day running smoothly with some welcome humour to boot! Thanks also to everyone for the tremendous entry not only in quantity but in quality too, I was spoilt for choice in the majority of classes. It was refreshing to see so many sound and unexaggerated Beardies and I am very aware that I use the word ‘typical’ so often but so many exhibits were just that. To be critical, the odd one or two lacked pigment and the same for narrow jaws and small teeth. On the whole, exhibits were in good condition even if I did find the odd knot! Handling always interests me and some very nice Beardies were let down by not being under control. Just a little more effort and these Beardies could present themselves and be assessed much better. The puppy and Veteran/vintage classes are always my favourite and the condition of my Veteran and Vintage exhibits were fantastic. I wish I could have awarded all of them a card…thank you for bringing them.

DOGS:

Minor Puppy Dog (4,0)
1st - Peart’s Kilfinan Mr Moonlight For Talluarchy
8 months slate baby who was so elegant and unexaggerated. I liked his overall proportions which gave him a typical outline. With a strong head and kind expression, he is developing nicely with correct shoulder placement and neat well angled rear. He has an easy ground covering action and gave my best puppy a run for his money. A nice puppy coat completed the picture.
2nd - Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes
At just 8 months, this dark slate baby is very appealing showing a lovely profile standing. He is well proportioned with nothing overdone. He has a balanced head with good eye colour. Nice angles front and rear and is very steady on the move.
3rd - Wood’s Pepperjay Bartholomew
8 month plain slate boy. A mature puppy who was clearly enjoying his day out. He has a typical Beardie expression, good head on well arched neck, well laid shoulders and good length and depth of rib and neat rear. Once settled he covered the ground with minimum effort.

Puppy Dog (7,0)
1st - Jay’s Farmarens Drums Of Spring At Talraz (Imp Swe)
Loved this 9th month old slate puppy. He has super proportions and outline. Another who is developing nicely with a well balanced head, strong muzzle and a true Beardie expression. He moved out well from all angles and was not overdone in
any way, a delight to handle and watch. Coat coming through well. Pleased to award
him BPIS.
2nd - Peart’s Kilfinan Mr Moonlight For Talluarchy
3rd - Leckenby’s Kiltondale Chicago Flame
Black and White youngster. At 9 months he is a pleasing type who was very together. He has a strong head with good eye colour. Underneath his attractive puppy coat, he has a nice front assembly with good length coming from rib and a well angled rear. He did not quite have the front extension of 1 & 2.

Junior Dog (5,0)
1st - Kuz’s Duncannas Special Edition
An impressive slate boy. His head is broad and flat with a strong muzzle. Excellent front assembly, correct rib for length and depth with short loin. He is neat behind with strong hindquarters. Good outline and proportions, typical coat for age. Effortless and very steady on the move.
2nd - Stead & Edwards’ Ramsgrove the Great Oopsie
This is a mature, well grown slate boy who is very eye catching giving a glamorous appearance. I preferred the overall shape and proportions of 1 but he is a very well put together dog who has a supple, easy stride.
3rd - Leckenby’s Kiltondale Chicago Flame

Yearling Dog (3,0)
1st - Garrity & Tibbett’s Potterdale Andante
A slate boy who is maturing nicely. He is strongly made showing some lovely qualities. He is an effortless mover with the most gorgeous typical Beardie expression, good head on well arched neck, well laid shoulders and super length and depth of rib. Strong rear with neat low hocks.
2nd - Kuz’s Duncannas Special Edition
3rd - Stead & Edwards’ Ramsgrove The Great Oopsie

Novice Dog (6,0)
1st - Jay’s Farmarens Drums Of Spring At Talraz (Imp Swe)
2nd - Peart’s Kilfinan Mr Moonlight For Talluarchy
3rd - Hinchliffe’s Miner’s Lake Just For Me At Croftdale (Imp Deu)
A dark slate who was giving his handler a hard time. With a kind, typical Beardie expression, this boy did not show the overall balance of 1 & 2 and lacked front extension. He has a good head on a well arched neck and has acceptable length and depth of rib with a strong, neat rear. He needs time to settle.

Debutant Dog (3,0)
1st - Jay’s Farmarens Drums Of Spring At Talraz (Imp Swe)
2nd - Peart’s Kilfinan Mr Moonlight For Talluarchy
3rd - Campbell’s Chyanullys Diamond Drover
This happy slate youngster has a kind expression and a strong, flat, broad head. I would have liked a slightly better lay of shoulder and although moved steadily, he lacked in front extension. He had a well proportioned rib cage and neat rear but would benefit from a little more length in body to complete the picture.

Graduate Dog (4,0)
1st - Harcourt-Brown’s Orora’s The Emperor
Another lovely slate youngster who looks most impressive on the stand. He has a broad head, strong muzzle and underjaw. His expression is soft and appealing. He is balanced throughout and has a nice deep chest, strong loin, and low neat hocks. He has a good coat and is maturing well. He covers the ground so well without any effort sometimes making it difficult for his handler to keep up.
2nd - Savage & McLean’s Talraz Comic Relief At Canaich JW
This slate boy had the most appealing expression and well proportioned head qualities. He was not as glamorous as 1 but I liked his overall shape. He was in hard condition and moved with a free and easy gait.
3rd - Weightman’s Debbeacol Rhythm Is A Dancer
This dark slate boy was handsome and very impressive on the stand. Overall he was heavier than 1 & 2 but nicely made throughout. He has a good head with dark eye. A well arched neck and nice shoulder placement complete with a well angled rear and he is well balanced. Sound both coming and going with good length of stride. He had a tendency to fly his tail which just spoilt the picture.

Post Graduate Dog (5,1)
1st - Leckenby’s Kiltondale Amarillo Star
A dark slate of nice type who at first was not totally settled on the move. He is a handsome boy who is maturing nicely. He has a strong head with good eye. Nice front assembly with well laid shoulders. Good length coming from rib with a well angled rear. He moved well when settled.
2nd - Hinchliffe’s Pretty Bear Beautiful Bill At Croftdale (Imp Deu)
A happy brown. Slightly shorter in leg than I would like which makes him look long in body. He is an elegant dog with a good head although his eye could be a little darker to tone with coat colour. He has a -well arched neck and correct shoulder placement. Overall nicely balanced and in excellent condition. He is sound both coming and going with good length of stride.
3rd - Rudd’s Tolkien’s Dream On With Lubin (Imp Deu)
With a super dark brown coat this boy was larger all over and rangier than 1 &2. He has correct head qualities and good eye colour. He is well proportioned throughout although not particularly animated on the move which let him down. He could do better for losing a little weight.

Mid Limit Dog (2,0)
1st - Gamble’s Talraz Look To The Future At Capelaw ShCM
Showing a nice outline, this slate is such a lovely type. Although he took off a bit quick, he did settle into an effortless stride. He is such a typical Beardie with typical expression, good head on well arched neck, well laid shoulders and super length and depth of rib. He has a neat rear with low hocks.
2nd - Handley’s Invercoyle Caperdonich At Barkenbear
This handsome blue dog has a strong head and muzzle and kind eye. He is rangier than 1 but has an elegant look about him with a correct rib for shape, depth and length. He had a good length of stride and forward reach but as he is a little square in croup, it took away the overall balance on the move.

Limit Dog (7,0)
1st - Robertson’s Arranbrae Laird Of Quothquan JW
A dark slate who looked a picture today, so easy on the eye and so typical. Showing a lovely outline, I liked his overall proportions with well arched neck on well laid shoulders. Super rib cage and neat rear. He has a such a lovely easy stride and his consistent ground covering movement won him the class and RCC.
2nd - Glasgow’s J B De Chester At Gallus ((Imp Fra)
This blue boy has a super outline. He has a strong head, muzzle and underjaw with good eye and pigment. He has a well arched neck, good lay of shoulder, correct rib with strong short loin. An unexaggerated dog who is a good steady mover.
3rd - Nolan’s Talraz Nuts In May
Brown boy who I have liked before and still do. He has matured well with lovely head proportions and a typical expression. He is nicely made throughout with an easy, supple action which cannot be overlooked.

Open Dog (11,4)
1st - Lewis & Edinboro’s Ch Potterdale Potential JW
Slate boy who was my BP when I last judged dogs. He has matured into a handsome, impressive chap who is nicely balanced with nothing overdone. He has a good head, good depth of rib, balanced proportions giving a super outline. He has a steady easy stride and once again did himself proud in the challenge to win the CC and RBIS.
2nd - Groenier’s NlCH Braemoor’s Party Trick (ATC Nld)
This plain brown boy is also of good proportions. He has a strong, nicely balanced head with the most appealing expression with a super outline both on the stand and on the move. He is neatly made throughout and is so unexaggerated. Liked his easy, smooth, ground covering action and was considered for the RCC.
3rd - Lewis’ Ch Potterdale Platinum Plus
This dark slate boy is a picture on the stand for outline and type. With super head qualities, he is well proportioned throughout with correct shape, depth and length of rib. He is in excellent condition and was very fluent on the move.

Veteran Dog (7,1)
1st - Collins’ Ch Sammara Over The Moon
Now an 8yr old slate who I have liked before. He has a strong head and lovely dark eye. A well arched neck and nice shoulder placement and overall nicely balanced. Sound both coming and going with good length of stride. He is in excellent condition and immaculately presented. He was enjoying his day. BVD.
2nd - Handley’s Ch Bargemon Baryshnikov At Barkenbear JW ShCM
At 9 yrs this slate boy is in fabulous condition. A typically happy Beardie with a lovely head, strong muzzle and skull. Ideal neck and shoulder placement. Correct rib cage. Very neat front and rear. Very positive and sound on the move.
3rd - Bowden’s Ch Subessen Echoes Of Power JW
At 9 yrs, this slate boy is another I have liked before. He has a lovely expression with strong muzzle and skull. With well laid shoulders, good length of body and strong neat rear, he is very positive and sound on the move. To complete the picture he could do with not leaving his ‘best jacket’ at home!

Vintage Dog (1,0)
1st - Armour & Fletcher’s Talraz Trail Blazer
At 10 yrs, this is such a happy slate boy enjoying his day. He has the right appeal with nothing overdone. Good head and eye with nice angles front and rear. Very steady on the move and in great condition. BVintD.

Special Beginners Dog (3,1)
1st - Daly’s Orora’s Embellished
This slate boy was more settled here than in a previous class. Showing a good outline, he has a good head and typical expression, he is nicely made with good proportions. He has an easy action and was sympathetically handled.
2nd - Groden’s Tybury’s Warden Of The North
This dark slate puppy was attending his first show and taking it all in his stride. He is well put together and was very much enjoying himself in an earlier class but settled nicely to work with his handler who was also experiencing her first time in the ring. Congratulations for handling your puppy so nicely and look forward to seeing you again.

Special Open Dog (2,0)
1st - Buchanan-Hislop’s Ciopar Celtic Little Bear
VHC in a strong open class, this slate boy is not the biggest but is really neatly made. He has a strong head with good eye and pigment. With a well arched neck and good lay of shoulder, he has a correct rib with strong short loin. An unexaggerated dog who is a nice steady mover.
2nd - Delaney’s Ch Arranbrae Muy Guapo JW
Much bigger and rangier than 1st, this slate boy shows an ideal profile standing. He has a balanced head with good eye colour. Nice angles front and rear. He settles into himself well on the move, showing an easy, ground covering action.

BITCHES:

Minor Puppy Bitch (3,0)
1st - Martin’s Barnswood Mary Poppins
At just 6 months this black and white baby has a true Beardie expression with nice eye colour. With good front assembly and balanced rear angles, she covered the ground well. A little close behind at present that will improve with age nevertheless a very promising puppy.
2nd - Bowden’s Subessen Heart Of Hearts
At 7 months, This slate is very much a baby. She has a pleasing expression with typical head proportions and nice eye. Good shoulder placement and correct rib. She is still quite loose in rear action and tucked herself up on the stand. She should hold herself better when she bodies up and strengthens.
3rd - Kirby’s Finesk Bratach Brana
At almost 9 months, this darker slate and much more mature in body. Excelled in front conformation, good depth of chest and forechest, strong loin and neat rear yet not as free on the move as 1 and 2. She tended to drop her topline a little when standing which spoilt the overall picture.

Puppy Bitch (6,0)
1st - Edwards’ Roxilyn Take A Bow
This 8 month slate baby is so feminine. She has the right appeal with nothing overdone. She has a balanced head with good eye colour, nice angles front and rear and a harsh coat coming through. She was so well behaved and moved out beautifully. She was so attentive to her handler she was a pleasure to watch. BPB.
2nd - Weightman’s Debbeacol Takes Two To Tango
This more mature baby at 11 months was equally as feminine. She is a more glamorous puppy who is of good type and not overdone. Nicely balanced head with dark eye, liked her length of body and nicely angulated rear. She is an easy, supple mover that is in hard condition.
3rd - Peirson’s Kiltondale Kinkyboots
A striking 11 month black and white puppy with a kind typical head. Super outline standing, she has a good lay of shoulders and decent upper arm. Her rib is correct and her rear is neat. She settles nicely into her stride to complete the picture.

Junior Bitch (8,2)
1st - Ayrton’s Aoibh Fiery Flamenco
This rather raw young lady who is still developing cannot be denied her place here for her composed, free flowing movement. She has a strong yet feminine head and kind expression, a good front assembly and lay of shoulder with correct ribcage. She has a neat strong rear and is in hard condition. I will look forward to watching her mature.
2nd - Harcourt-Brown’s Orora’s The Heroine
Hard to split these two and on first glance I thought she would be my class winner. Would have liked to see her a little more settled but when she did her movement was easy and effortless. She is so appealing for her elegance and type with a super strong head, good eye and pigment. She is not overdone in any way and is maturing just like a Beardie should. Good proportions all round and a typical rib cage with short strong loin. In very good condition.
3rd - Robinson’s Thingamebob She’s A Star JW
A darker slate who is a striking puppy. She has a good head with strong jaw and appealing expression, correct lay back of shoulder, correct length to height proportions. Strong rear with neat hocks. She is in hard condition and covered the ground well yet not quite showing as much enthusiasm on the move as 1 & 2.

Yearling Bitch (7,0)
1st - O’Brien’s Potterdale Angeleyes At Sammara
This pretty pale slate lady is so feminine, well put together and in good condition. With a lovely outline standing, she has a balanced head and soft expression. With a well arched neck, excellent length of back with correct ribcage, short loin and neat rear, she shows an effortless free and easy gait.
2nd - Glasgow’s Malandex Xpat’s Gem At Gallus
This slate young lady is heavier built and looks mature for her age. She has a super balanced head with good jaw and muzzle. Dark eye and lovely expression. She is well balanced throughout and has good front and rear angles. Correct rib cage and short loin. Such an easy, free action on the move.
3rd - Jay’s Talraz Relight My Fire JW
This lady is not too dissimilar to 2. She also has a strong head, good eye and pigment. With well laid shoulders she has nice proportions front and rear and such an even stride that she could not be overlooked.

Novice Bitch (4,1)
1st - Edwards’ Roxilyn Take A Bow
2nd - Harcourt-Brown’s Orora’s Velveteen
The most gorgeous brown young lady who was full of beans. She is a good shape and nicely made throughout. She was initially very unsettled on the move but she proved her ability to cover the ground with the easy action her construction allowed.
3rd - Sweitnicki’s Talraz Falling Leaves At Silviana
Another nice brown who was slightly heavier in build. She has a pleasing expression and typical head proportions with nice eye colour. Good shoulder placement and correct rib. Good rear angles with neat hocks. Was very steady on the move but just not covering as much ground as 1 & 2.

Debutant Bitch (2,1)
1st - Edwards’ Roxilyn Take A Bow

Graduate Bitch (4,0)
1st - Canty’s Bargemon Melba
A pretty pale slate who has a strong yet feminine head with typical Beardie expression. She has a good lay of shoulder, correct height to length, short strong loin. Good bend of stifle. Lovely outline standing and very steady on the move.
2nd - Gill & Hosie’s Malandex French Xpectation For Gillaber
