The Bearded Collie Club of Scotland Open Show – Saturday 29th February 2020
Judge - Hazel Cook (Gillaber)

I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging a lovely entry and thank the committee of the BCCofSc for the invitation. All dogs, with the exception of one, were presented well and the temperaments of all were good. I was surprised at the number of level bites and short tails. The length of hair at the end of the tail doesn't denote a long tail! I'm sure some dogs would move better outdoors but the ring was of a decent size and surface.

DOGS:

Special Vintage Dog 1 (0)
1st - Handley’s Bargemon Beauford Tourer at Barkenbear ShCM VW
10 yr old brown. Good shoulder and upper arm. Decent rib. In excellent coat, moved with enthusiasm.

Veteran Dog (0
1st - Handley’s Ch Bargemon Baryshnikov at Barkenbear JW ShCM VW
9 yr old slate in lovely bloom. Excellent head, neck, shoulders. Decent rib, moved out so well.

Minor Puppy Dog

Puppy Dog 2 (1)
1st - Glasgow’s Gallus Lucky Ace
9 month old puppy, stood alone. Good eye colour, good head, strong jaw, good neck & shoulders. High at rear but that should settle, neat hocks, decent tail length. A bit uncoordinated on the move but I'm sure this will improve and tighten as he matures. He showed fleeting glimpses of a good reach at times. Best Puppy Dog.

Junior Dog 3 (1)
1st - Kirby’s Finesk The Dancing Master
Raw 13 month old youngster. Good head with dark eye. Harsh coat but at that in between stage. Good neck & rib. Better length than 2, and showed more reach on the move when settled.
2nd - Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes
1 yr old dark slate, beautifully presented. Good eye, head & shoulders, well balanced. This is a dog who I'm sure would have moved better outdoors.

Yearling Dog 2 (0)
1st - Kutz’s Duncannas Special Edition at Strufingill JW
18 month old well balanced youngster. Good head, neck & shoulders, level top line, decent rib. Nice neat hocks. Harsh coat coming in well. Really extended on the move.
2nd - Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes

Maiden Dog 2 (0)
1st - Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes

Novice Dog 3 (0)
1st - Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes
2nd - Glasgow’s Gallus Lucky Ace
3rd - Campbell’s Chyanullys Diamond Drover
Nice type, giving his handler a hard time. Everything in the right place but tail carried high which affected his enthusiastic movement.

Post Graduate Dog 2 (0)
1st - Savage & McLean’s Talraz Comic Relief at Canaich JW
Upstanding elegant dog, good eye, head and neck leading into good shoulders. Ok rib. Moved ok, presented well.
2nd - Kirby’s Finesk Awa Whigs Awa
Good head, light eye. Not as good in neck as 1, long rib, good workmanlike harsh coat. Tail raised when moving which spoiled his movement.

Mid Limit Dog 1 (0)
1st - Gamble’s Talraz Look To The Future At Capelaw ShCM
Lovely dog I've admired from the ringside. Good broad head, dark eye, neck flowed into good shoulders. In full bloom he extended well when moving.

Limit Dog 4 (1)
1st - Robertson’s Arranbrae Laird of Quothquan JW
Almost 4 yr old looking his best. He just flows from his lovely head with expressive dark eyes to a beautifully arched neck, level top line and good rib. In mature body fitting coat he moved the best I have seen him with drive and extension. Well deserved Best Dog, Best Opposite Sex in Show. In the challenge for BIS & Reserve BIS he seemed to tire and wasn't giving his all.
2nd - Gibb’s Snikkles Bluebeard at Pirateer JW ShCM ShCEx
Almost 5 yr old blue in very well presented coat, still has some maturing to do. Well made dog with all the attributes of first. Has presence and will never be overlooked.
3rd - Handley’s Invercoyle Caperdonich at Barkenbear
6 yr old who I feel lacks the finished coat he needs to complete the picture. A tad upright when moving and not settling into his hocks though extending well in front. Lovely temperament.

Open Dog 2 (1)
1st - Glasgow’s J.B. De Chester at Gallus (Imp Fra)
5 yr old blue looking his mature best. Super eye colour, good head, lovely arched neck leading into excellent shoulders. Super length coming from good ribs, moved with joy, a pleasure to judge him today. Reserve Best Dog.

BITCHES:

Special Vintage Bitch
No Entries

Veteran Bitch 4 (0)
1st - Glasgow’s Ch Gallus Fortune Cookie ShCM
Almost 8 yr old, worthy champion in the best of order. Good head, dark eye, super shoulders, level top line, long ribs, neat short hocks. Moved with drive and purpose. In excellent coat. Reserve Best Bitch, Best Veteran in Show and Reserve Best in Show.
2nd - Robertson’s Kiltondale Liadhich with Quothquan ShCM
Lovely dark 8 yr old with all the attributes of 1. She didn't have the freedom of movement of 1 and I think she would have preferred moving outdoors. Nevertheless a lovely bitch.
3rd - Ballantyne’s Balbridge Nansies Kiss
7 yr old in good coat, good head, eye, neck. Good length coming from decent rib. Very unsettled on the move and difficult to assess movement, I don't think she had her usual handler which was unfortunate as she is a nice bitch.

Minor Puppy Bitch
No Entries

Puppy Bitch 1 (0)
1st - Johnston’s Corimist Fashion Star
9 month old eye catching dark puppy. Lovely dark eye, good head and neck. Good rib giving a good well balanced appearance. Bit enthusiastic on the move but I'm sure with training and experience she'll settle into a smoother gait.

Junior Bitch 3 (0)
1st - Ayrton’s Aoibh Fiery Flamenco
A well balanced junior, good square head, eye ok, lovely neck leading into good shoulders, level topline. Harsh coat coming through. Another I felt would move better outside.
2nd - Kirby’s Finesk Bratach Bana
Typical junior, very out of coat. Adequate neck, good shoulders and rib. Tended to drop her topline when standing. Moved ok.
3rd - Millan’s Kiltondale Snow White
Nice bitch who could benefit from some ring training. Lovely neck &shoulders, good upper arm, good length from rib. Showed glimpses of good movement. A bitch worth persevering with.

Yearling Bitch 3 (0)
1st - Glasgow’s Malandex Xpats Gem at Gallus JW
Beautifully balanced bitch, excellent length from good ribs, moved so well. Very well presented. Best bitch and BIS.
2nd - Ballantyne’s Bustroc Rosebud
Dark eye, lovely head and neck leading into good shoulders. Not in the best of coats but what she had was of good quality. Happy girl on the move, preferred the length of first.
3rd - Ayrton’s Aoibh Fiery Flamenco

Maiden Bitch 1 (0)
1st - Millan’s Kiltondale Snow White

Novice Bitch 1 (0)
1st - Johnston’s Corimist Fashion Star

Debutant Bitch 2 (0)
1st - Johnston’s Corimist Fashion Star
2nd - Sichi’s Scalbeck Sweet Sensation at Seachran
4 yr old bitch who made her handler work very hard. A nice bitch who was quite excitable which affected her movement. In good, well presented coat.

Undergraduate Bitch 3 (1)
1st - Gamble’s Talraz By Firelight to Capelaw
Mid grey balanced bitch, lovely head, good neck, & rib. Moved very well, in good coat.
2nd - Ayrton’s Aoibh Fiery Flamenco

Graduate Bitch 1 (1)

Post Graduate Bitch 4 (2)
1st - Ayrton’s Aoibh Skylark
Nice bitch, level topline, good length, dropped her head when moving, didn't affect her movement but spoilt the general outline. In good coat. Close between her and second.
2nd - Muir’s Douglasdale Dream Island
Stronger made bitch all round than 1. Lovely brown with good eye colour. Tended to drop her topline when standing, moved really well with drive and purpose.

Mid Limit Bitch 3 (2)
1st - Muir’s Douglasdale Dream Island

Limit Bitch 2 (0)
1st - Moir’s Braemoor's Fabulous Fennela at Winaria JW (Imp Nld)
Mature 3 yr old in full bloom, lovely head and dark eye, strong jaw, decent neck, long rib giving that desired length. Moved soundly but on the day I felt she lacked animation.
2nd - Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Let Freedom Ring
Close up to 1. Not quite as mature in coat but a lovely bitch. Moved very well.

Open Bitch 5 (1)
1st - Savage & Mclean’s Clovabrae Solar Flair ShCM
6 yr old mid slate, well balanced, dark eye, good length, moved very well just a tad lacking in finish.
2nd - Goodbrand’s Kiltondale Isn't She Lovely for Braesnobel
A lovely well balanced bitch. Moved very well but lifted her tail which spoiled her outline.
3rd - Goodbrand’s Dychix Whistle and Bells at Braesnobel ShCM
6yr old dark slate. Nice bitch but although she extended well when moving she rolled over her shoulders.

Special Champion Class 3 (2)
1st - Glasgow’s Ch Gallus Fortune Cookie ShCM
